Florida Defensive Lineman Charged With DUI

POSTED: 11:45 am EST December 1, 2009

(Sports Network) - University of Florida defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with DUI.

Gainesville police Lt. Keith Kameg said an officer responded to reports of a reckless driver in a Chrysler and found the vehicle stopped at a traffic light. After waiting through a few signal cycles, the vehicle remained stopped.

Kameg said officer Robert Rogers approached the car and saw Dunlap slumped over in the front seat, apparently asleep at the wheel. The car was still in gear, but Rogers was able to reach through an opening in the window to put the car in park.

According to Kameg, Rogers said Dunlap had trouble standing and was somewhat incoherent. Field sobriety tests were administered and Rogers said Dunlap performed poorly.

Dunlap, after refusing a breath test, was arrested at 3:25 a.m. (et).

The 20-year-old junior is tied for the team lead with seven sacks and is second on the squad with 8 1/2 tackles for loss for the top-ranked Gators, who will play No. 2 Alabama this Saturday for the SEC championship.
