Los Angeles Kings (11-7-2) At Tampa Bay Lightning (7-4-5), 7:30 P.M.
(Sports Network) - The Tampa Bay Lightning will try to push their winning streak to a season-high three games when they invite the Los Angeles Kings to St. Pete Times Forum for tonight's interconference clash. The Lightning are coming off wins over Minnesota and Montreal and Tampa has recorded a point in four straight games, going 3-0-1 over that stretch. Tampa's most recent victory came in dramatic fashion as the Bolts came back against the visiting Wild before eventually winning the contest in a shootout. Ryan Malone scored the equalizer with 14.7 seconds left in regulation and Vincent Lecavalier and Steven Stamkos had goals in the shootout to lift the Lightning to the 4-3 decision. Malone and Stamkos each finished with a goal and assist for the Lightning, who haven't won three straight since January 19-27 of last season. Steve Downie also tallied, while Antero Niittymaki stopped 31 shots in the victory. Tampa faced deficits of 2-0 and 3-1 in the second period, but scored twice in the final 20 minutes of regulation to send the game to overtime. "It was kind of an up-and-down game, I think," Stamkos said. "The first half of the game I think we were a little sloppy. We were just throwing the puck around, not paying attention to where it was going. Chopping it in the zone, we were getting caught. But I think this team showed a lot of character, and we're showing confidence now." Stamkos, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft, is having an excellent sophomore campaign with 13 goals and 19 points in 16 games. Tonight marks the end of a brief two-game homestand for the Bolts, who have yet to suffer a regulation loss at home this year with a 5-0-3 record. Following tonight, Tampa will head out on a four-game road trip, which begins Monday in Phoenix. The Kings, meanwhile, will try to bounce back from Friday's embarrassing loss in Atlanta. The Thrashers skated to an easy 7-0 win as both Ilya Kovalchuk and Maxim Afinogenov registered two goals and two assists. Jonathan Quick started for Los Angeles and was pulled after yielding three goals on 14 shots. Erik Ersberg turned away just three of the seven shots he faced the rest of the way. "They took advantage of some opportunities," said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "They have some explosive players, scored a couple of breakaway goals. They showed a killer instinct." The Kings are making their fourth stop on a five-game road trip tonight and are 6-5-1 as the guest this season. LA is scheduled to complete the swing Monday at Florida. Tampa posted a 3-1 victory over the Kings in LA last year and has won three straight in the series. Los Angeles has dropped three of four and six of its last nine at the Forum.
